Insurance

We are an out-of-network practice. At the time of your session you would pay the fee for your session. We will be happy to provide you with a receipt that you can submit to your insurance company. Because we are licensed therapists, our professional services do qualify for patient reimbursement under many insurance plans.

To help determine what your insurance company will cover, you may want to ask your insurance company...

  • Do I have an out-of-network benefit if I see an out-of-network provider for individual or family psychotherapy?
  • Do I have a deductible for out-of-network services?
  • Do I need a pre-authorization for out-of-network services?
  • How many sessions will the insurance company authorize before a treatment plan is required?
  • What are the “reasonable and customary” rates in the 21208 zip code for the initial evaluation session (CPT code 90791) and for ongoing sessions (CPT code 90834 or 90847)? If you are inquiring about reimbursement for group therapy, the CPT code is 90853.

Frequently Asked Questions

When can new members join the group?
New members can join at the beginning of each module. Sometimes, depending on various factors, group members can join in the third group of the module.

Do I need an evaluation before starting the group?
Yes. To make sure the group is a good fit for you, the group leader will meet with you before you start the group. The evaluation session fee varies by provider and ranges from $170-$200.

Do I also need to be in individual therapy to join the group?
Yes. To participate in the group you would also need to be in individual therapy. Your individual therapist does not have to be one of our therapists, but we do offer individual therapy here if you do not already have a therapist.

How long does it take to learn all the skills?
The curriculum is designed based on an almost six month commitment to complete all 3 modules– Mindfulness/Distress Tolerance, Mindfulness/Emotion Regulation, and Mindfulness/Interpersonal Effectiveness.

Some people stay in the group for about 6 months to learn all the skills one time, and others stay on longer to repeat some or all of the modules to reinforce and consolidate what they have been learning.

The financial commitment is for one module at a time. There are about 7 meetings in each module. Payment for all the meetings in the module is due in advance to reserve your spot.

How often does the group meet and is it in-person?
The group meets weekly for an hour and a half in-person at our Mt. Washington office.

What is the structure of the sessions?
Each meeting starts with a few minute mindfulness practice, followed by skills review, followed by learning a new skill. The groups are based on the curriculum designed by Marsha Linehan, the founder of DBT. Group members are provided a binder.

The groups are a hybrid of the group leader teaching skills, group members sharing what they are working on, how they relate to the skills, and providing peer support to each other.

How many group members are in the group?
There are generally 4-8 members in the group.

Does insurance cover the sessions?
We are out-of-network with all insurances- more details on what that means can be found here. The service code, also known as CPT code, for the evaluation is 90791, and for the ongoing group sessions is 90853.
