Fortifying Your Marriage: Mastering Empathy and Understanding to Improve Your Relationship
In this hour and a half workshop for couples you’ll learn:
-What makes a marriage successful
-How to better understand and empathize with your spouse
-How to know when to “just listen” and when to “problem solve”
-How to prevent those “I didn’t respond the right way moments” from escalating into an argument
People often ask me, "what do couples fight ABOUT most?" The truth is, as you know, couples can argue about anything. An even better question is, "what do spouses fight FOR?" They fight to be heard and responded to. Often times arguments are about a particular topic, but really center around wanting to know "are you there for me?" Even if you negotiate a solution to the topic you are arguing about, you might not have gotten a satisfactory answer to the question fueling the argument-- "are you there for me?"
-In this workshop you and your spouse will learn how to let each other know “I’m there for you.”
Presented by: Mayer Solomon, LCSW-C, marriage therapist in private practice, clinical instructor of family therapy at UM Medical School, and psychotherapist at The Retreat - a premier multidisciplinary residential treatment facility.
Date: Tuesday, December 4th, 2012
Time: 8-9:30PM
