Mayer Solomon, LCSW-C
In addition to his work in private practice, Mayer has worked at one of the most prestigious therapy settings in the United States, The Retreat, which has given him the opportunity to work with almost every situation and help people with depression, anxiety, addictive behaviors, and relationship problems. He is also a clinical instructor of family therapy in the department of psychiatry at University of Maryland Medical School.
Mayer’s experience working closely with psychiatrists and multi-disciplinary health professionals, who provide art therapy, movement therapy, equine therapy, experiential therapy, and recreational therapy, has given Mayer the ability to view client’s challenges in a holistic manner. His work with individuals and families, running therapeutic groups within a therapeutic milieu, and seeing people at various stages of recovery and illness, gives Mayer the ability to relate to clients at all stages of their personal journey towards feeling better.
Mayer is a board approved supervisor, for both social workers and marriage and family therapists, and provides supervision to therapists in training. He has been a featured and well received speaker at multiple venues, including The JME Switzerland conference. His ability to explain difficult concepts in a practical and engaging way helps his supervisees, and clients, develop a clear path to emotional health.
Mayer received his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Maryland UC, his Master of Social Work from the University of Maryland School of Social Work, and Smicha from The Yeshiva of Greater Washington. His experience in a technical science field helps him to provide therapy in a pragmatic way that demystifies the therapeutic process, and creates a user friendly experience for even those who are generally uncomfortable with seeking therapy.
